J Cole Top 5 Ft. Of 2018
Updated: Mar 12, 2019
Can he really do no wrong? J.Cole a rap veteran, has been known to kill every song he's featured on and 2018 has definitely been a year for him. With rumors of an upcoming album in 2019 titled (The Fall Off), and gossip of new music with Drake, J.Cole has been receiving quite the buzz. 2019 couldn't begin without a recap of J.Cole's contribution to the rap culture.
The infamous "no features" artist just went platinum for the third time this year, but unlike Cole's usual no collaboration mentality, this year he was featured on eleven songs. The list follows.
21 Savage ft. J.Cole- "A-Lot"
Cozz ft. J.Cole- "Zendaya"
Royce 5'9 ft. J.Cole- "Boblo Boat"
Bas ft. J.Cole - "Tribe"
Wale ft. J.Cole- "My Boy"
Moneybagg Yo ft. J.Cole- "Say Na"
Jay Rock ft. J.Cole- "OSOM"
6LACK ft. J.Cole- "Pretty Little Fears"
Rapsody ft. J.Cole- "SoJourner"
JID ft. J.Cole- "Off Deez"
Ari Lennox ft. J.Cole- "Shea Butter Baby"(Creed II)
So what were J Cole's best verses of 2018, well I've comprised My Top 5. *DISCLAIMER* this is the order I put them based off of the overall quality of the song, what Cole's verse does for the song, and how well the union or feature works together if you get what I mean.
5. 6LACK ft J.Cole - "Pretty Little Fears"
Okay I know, people are gonna question" This is number five?” I can't lie great collaboration. 6LACK and Cole make the perfect duo. The song has a good overall quality and replay value plus the visuals were even better, but this was expected come on its 6LACK.
4. Rapsody ft. J.Cole- "SoJourner"
The sample is what does it for this song. J.Cole raps alongside Rapsody who is also signed to Roc Nation. Cole does not disappoint although he is "featured" his verse begins the song setting the tone for what to expect.
3. Bas ft. J.Cole - "Tribe"
Easily number three. If you don't know who Bas is GO LISTEN. Outside of just a J.Cole feature this was just an overall feel good song of 2018. Cole provides a solid verse over smooth beats, the song is an easy win-win. Bas and Cole work well together and have a couple of other features like "Lit" and "My N**** Just Made Bail." Bas is also signed to Dreamville, J. Cole's record label proving he's a solid artist.
2. Royce 5'9 ft. J.Cole- "Boblo Boat"
ROYCE THE 5'9!!!!! one word LEGENDARY. Royce 5'9 is a member of Joe Budden's Slaughterhouse ( a group of well known lyrical emcee's) and is heavily associated with Eminem. Royce and J.Cole on one song had to be epic and it was just that. The song sample's Boblo Memories , creating the perfect intro. This was one of my favorite songs from the entire list of features simply based off of the overall quality. Cole even manages to sing a little.
1.Jay Rock ft. J.Cole- "OSOM"
Out of sight out of mind the phrase continuously repeated throughout the song, this is hands down one the best collaborations. Jay Rock is signed to Kendrick Lamar's TDE (Top Dawg ENT) and is responsible for "Kings Dead" from the popular Black Panther movie soundtrack. Outside of his creative influence on the soundtrack he released his debut album Redemption June 2018. Both are very lyrical artists so this feature was nothing shy of perfect. The verses supply good content. The song is about paranoia of your karma finally catching up to you. The visuals were dope as well seemingly like a short film in which both artists star as the protagonists. There it is Cole can do no wrong acting may soon be on his resume.
Songs that did not make Top 5 but deserve to be mentioned:
Cozz ft. J.Cole- "Zendaya"
21 Savage ft. J.Cole- "A-Lot"
